Amazon Prime Day Deals

Today is Amazon’s Prime Day. What is “Prime Day”? It’s this:

Prime Day is a one-day shopping event on July 15, 2015, with more deals than Black Friday. Prime members can shop exclusive deals from electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more.

All of us here at T&T are pretty big fans of Amazon Prime — if for nothing more than the free shipping. And so yeah, we think you too would probably benefit from a Prime membership.

Here’s what’s cool: if you don’t have a Prime membership, you can try it free for 30-days. Not only will that get you access to the Prime Day deals today, but also a chance to check out the Amazon instant video offerings and more.

Just like we do every day, we are watching for worthwhile deals and listing them here on site. However, we will say that so far we’ve found Prime Day to be a little bit underwhelming. There are a few good sales on some great stuff, but the overall offerings on Amazon.com right now don’t seem to match the hype leading up to Prime Day.

Amazon Kindle $49 (Normally $79) »

This is Amazon’s low-end Kindle, and the lowest price that it gets. It hasn’t been priced at $49 since last November. The regular Kindle is lightweight, has a battery that lasts for hours, and has a touchscreen.

While this steep discount is hard to ignore, it’s also worth noting that the Kindle Paperwhite is a vastly superior device. Having an illuminated, higher-resolution display is fantastic for the Kindle reading experience.

However, getting into the Kindle family at just $49 is pretty great.

Doxie Go Mobile Scanner $127 (normally $149) »

The Doxie Go is a great scanner. It’s ideal for folks who don’t deal with piles and piles of paper every single day. They’re fast, well-made, and very affordable. Even moreso right now.

It doesn’t require a PC or a Mac in order to actually scan. This makes it extremely convenient around the office or at home. It’s small enough you can keep it in a drawer or on a shelf — wherever is most convenient. It saves the scans on the device, and you can then import your scans to your Mac or PC via a USB connection.

If you’ve ever dealt with bad scanner software in the past, guess what: it’s not terrible anymore. It’s actually fantastic. The Doxie app has OCR support and can sync your scans to Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, or OneNote. It also includes built in sharing to AirDrop or iMessage.

The Doxie Go is also battery-powered, so you can keep in the car or transport between home and work. It’s great for someone who needs to scan on the go.
