The Sony Alpha a6400 Mirrorless Camera is Available for Pre-order
We've written about a lot of Sony cameras over the years, because they are arguably the best options for most entry-level consumers wanting to get into the mirrorless game. As ever, the company is continuing its onward march of incremental improvements with the upcoming Sony Alpha a6400, which features a 180-degree touch flip screen that vloggers and video creators in particular will get a lot of use from.
The quick rundown is that the a6400 sports a 24.2-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor paired with a BIONZ X image processing engine. Its native ISO range is 100–32,000
for both stills and video, and can be expanded to 102,400
. It can shoot video in 4K up to 30fps. It boasts blazing fast autofocus speed that can lock onto even a fast-moving subject within 0.02 seconds.
It has a "Real-time Eye-AF" system that uses AI to identify people and automatically focus on their eyes, or even one specific eye if you tell it to. And lastly, it can continuously shoot high-res photos at high frame rates — up to 11 fps with the mechanical shutter, and up to 8 fps with full AF/AE tracking while silent shooting.
Whether you're looking for a first mirrorless camera or in the market to upgrade from the one you bought a few years ago, the Sony Alpha a6400 looks to be a solid contender in this space. It will start shipping on February 28th, 2019 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon in a few configurations:
- Body only ($900)
- Body + 16-50mm lens ($1,000)
- Body + 18-135mm lens ($1,300)
