Sony QX Series Lens-Style Cameras

What if you could somehow take the accessibility of a smartphone and pair it with the power of a point-and-shoot camera? Sony's new 'Smart Lens' QX series of cameras aims to do just that.

Available for pre-order in two flavors – the smaller QX10 ($248) and the larger QX100 ($498) – these cameras essentially look like zoom lenses that you attach to the back of your smartphone. The cool thing is, they actually pack all the same hardware that you'd find in a point-and-shoot camera:

  • 18.2 or 20.2 megapixel sensor
  • Stereo microphone
  • Tripod mount
  • Memory card slot

Technically, you could use either of these cameras independently of a smartphone if you wanted to (for all your selfie needs), but the idea is to use your smartphone's screen as the viewfinder. The cameras pair with your phone via WiFi (or NFC, if you have it) for full-control and sharing capabilities.
