Some of us are more fidgety than others. When we get bored, restless, or anxious, we can't help but click and twirl our pens, spin random objects around, or drumming our fingers. Something about these actions centers us and allows us to focus on the task at hand.
If you can relate, here are a few items to satisfy your fidgeting needs.
-
Zebra F-701 Pen. ($5)
The classic stainless steel clicky pen with a knurled grip. What more could you want?
-
Apple AirPods. ($159)
While Apple's new wireless earbuds aren't necessarily fidget-friendly in and of themselves, the charging case they come in has a pleasant click when you open and shut it. You can hear it briefly in this helpful video by John Gruber of Daring Fireball:
-
The Thinket. ($36–$175, depending on model)
This fidget toy — designed by David Weinstock of Chessmate.com — is one of those things that's hard to put down once you start playing with it. Click it, twirl it, spin it, do tricks with it, whatever you like. The rare-earth magnet mechanism inside gives a satisfying "bounce" as you play.
-
The Fidget Cube. ($22 pre-order)
This six-sided doodad has a bunch of built-in toys to fidget with. The sides' respective names — Click, Glide, Flip, Breathe, Roll, and Spin — give an idea of what it can do. I wrote about it back when it was still a Kickstarter project, and now they're taking pre-orders that are expected to ship in February 2017.
-
Mophie “Hold Force” modular case for iPhone 7 & 7 Plus. ($40 for case plus $20–$60 per magnetic accessory)
The iPhone case that we included in our recent Everyday Carry: Customized article also works well for fidgeting purposes. Ah, that satisfyingly soft click sound when you attach one of those magnetic accessories…
