I love this Kickstarter project by Chris Wisher, founder of Enginehouse Leather. A self-taught master leatherworker and second-generation firefighter, he came up with the brilliant idea of repurposing the exteriors of retired fire hoses, combining them with leather and a rubber backing to create super-durable wallets and iPhone cases.

All pieces of fire hose and leather are hand-selected and hand-sewn here in the US. The coolest part is knowing that your wallet was made from a fire hose that literally saved lives. Talk about having an interesting past.
