The Arm

I played baseball from the time I was 4 until when I graduated high school. By the time I “retired”, I was starting to notice a change in youth baseball. It went from something played in the spring/summer to a year around sport. Instead of playing a two month long recreation season, baseball became a year round sport.

A little over a decade later, we are seeing a rise in arm injuries (and an increase in pitchers needing Tommy John surgery) across youth and professional pitchers. The book The Arm is looking at why. Based on what I know about how youth baseball has changed, I wasn’t surprised by the data, but it is startling.

If you are a baseball fan, or a parent of a youth baseball player, I highly recommend you check it out.

You can get it on Kindle for $13.99, or you can get it on iBooks for the same price.
