Fitbit Surge

Even with the Apple Watch release looming in the horizon, other companies are pressing ahead with their digital watches and fitness trackers. Fitbit has announced that the Fitbit Surge┬áis now available for pre-order for $249.95. This “Super Watch” has some unique features that I’ve not seen elsewhere. The most notable is the GPS tracking. While tracking steps without GPS is fairly accurate, GPS is still the tried and true method for long runs. It also can track your heart rate without using a chest strap. It comes in black, blue, or tangerine.

Some of the other notable features are:

  • Access your music playlist from your smartphone
  • See phone and text notifications on the display
  • Sync stats wirelessly to smartphones and computers
  • Backlight monochrome LCD for low light visibility
