eero

eero is a new wireless router that is aiming to simplify everything from installation, expansion, troubleshooting, and guest access. With the claim of simple setup, simple meshing (adding more access points without running cable), and automatic updates, eero looks like a really interesting product.

The guest access tool sounds really useful. You can invite friends to join your network with a text message, but if they have the eero app, they can join with the touch of a button. eero also has the ability to place time limits on guest access.

As you add more eero routers to your home, they automatically mesh together to create wider coverage. As a Wi-Fi nerd, I find their FAQ on this mesh technology very interesting. They have a dedicated radio for client access, and they have another for mesh communication.

eero is currently available for pre-order for $125 for a single device or $299 for a 3-pack. You can pre-order on their website. Pre-orders will ship this summer. If you want to learn more about why they are releasing eero, you can read their post on Medium.
